Mama’s Favorite Baileys Iced Coffee
As the weather heats up, I’ve been in search of the perfect boozy iced coffee recipe.
You’d be surprised just how much conjecture there is about the “perfect way” to make your iced coffee—other than the traditional mama method of brewing your coffee and forgetting about it until three hours later….
I won’t claim to be complete traditionalist; If the craving hits and you want that iced coffee NOW! then you’ll need to accept freshly brewed coffee and ice. A super simple brew to make at home with that magical extra touch of Baileys, I suspect this may become a favorite for you too!

Mama’s Favorite Baileys Iced Coffee
A deliciously refreshing treat on a hot day, Mama’s Baileys Iced Coffee recipe is a fun afternoon treat that combines two of my favorite ingredients—Baileys and Coffee!
- Total Time: 5 minutes
- Yield: 1 1x
Ingredients
2 oz Baileys
1 cup of ice cubes
1 cup of freshly brewed coffee (cooled if possible – or 2 Nespresso capsules with chilled milk)
Whipped cream (optional)
Chocolate syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Brew coffee and set aside
- Add ice cubes to your shaker
- Add Baileys and Coffee
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds
- Pour into a tall glass (including ice)
- Optionally top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup if desired
- Best drunk through a wide straw
Notes
- For a creamier alternative, I suggest the Nespresso machine alternate which is 2 portions of Ristretto (makes approximately 2.8 oz/80 ml) combined with 4 oz (120 ml) chilled low-fat milk.
- I find that Bailey’s and milk makes this recipe sweet enough, but if you’d prefer you can add one tab or teaspoon of your sweetener of choice.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes

Baileys Irish Cream Questions
Can I substitute a different Irish cream?
Yes, for sure. Baileys is a brand name we’re all familiar with, but Irish Cream can be made at home. Several other leading brands, including Kerrygold or Carolans, are also available, which we’d happily substitute in our Baileys recipes.
What is Baileys Iced Coffee Cold Brew?
This is a pre-mix can of Baileys Iced Coffee made by Diageo, sold in liquor stores. You can certainly give it a try though like most pre-packaged alcoholic drinks we find it a little sweeter than we’d make on our own. They are not available in all countries.
To whipped cream or to not?!
Totally up to you! It is a moderately healthier (ie. less calorific) drink (so we can have more, right?) if we leave off the whipped cream topping, but we know some will argue it’s simply not an iced coffee without it!
Variations on the Baileys Iced Coffee
If you’d still like non-alcoholic iced coffee, head over and check out Marta’s Italian Shakerato recipe! This is a perfect outside sip on a hot summer’s day.
Another favorite of ours is to enjoy a Flat White Baileys Martini. Again Baileys and iced coffee are the start in this stunning and sophisticated evening sip (basically putting it in a martini glass just means you’ve moved from your morning mug to something more classy at night, right?)
