Boozy Eggnog Done Right: Creamy, Spiked & Seriously Addictive
Full confession: I was an eggnog skeptic. The whole concept—a thick, egg-based drink sold in cartons—seemed more bizarre than festive. But then I tested my own batch of homemade boozy eggnog (tough job, but someone had to do it), and everything changed.
Here’s what the store-bought version never told you: real eggnog is a revelation. Cold, creamy, perfectly spiced, and wonderfully boozy, it’s nothing like that overly sweet carton imposter. Even better? The alcohol acts as a preservative, meaning you can make it days (some say weeks!) ahead and let the flavors meld beautifully in your fridge.
This recipe isn’t about following tradition—it’s about finding your perfect blend. If your only eggnog experience involves questionable cartons, you owe yourself this homemade upgrade. Trust us on this one.

Substitute Booze for Your Boozy Eggnog
For this recipe, I have used spiced rum, but you can also try dark rum, or bourbon (or a combination!).
Brandy can also work with this recipe and leave you with a lovely, warming feeling.
Our favourite adult variation on eggnog, though, is the Tom & Jerry – you can see our Tom & Jerry cocktail recipe here.
