Nothing screams summer is here, and tropical vibes louder than the Blue Lagoon.
At its simplest, a Blue Lagoon can be created with just three simple ingredients—blue Curacao, Vodka, and lemonade—but we prefer to jazz up our Blue Lagoon for something a little more colorful and inspiring for a cocktail party.

What Exactly is the Star Ingredient, Blue Curaçao?
Blue Curaçao is a staple for any home cocktail bar due to its strong citrus flavor and vivid blue color. A Caribbean liqueur made using the dried peel of the Laraha citrus fruit and then colored blue, it’s best used as a mixer in tropical cocktails—or any occasion where a splash of color is needed!
Blue Lagoon vs Blue Hawaiian
These two cocktails might be mentioned interchangeably, but other than their coloring, their similarities end there. A Blue Lagoon is very much a vodka-based drink with a crystal clear blue finish, whereas a Blue Hawaiian is a rum-based drink with a cloudier turquoise finish.
Blue Lagoon as a Pitcher Drink
With its simple ingredients, the Blue Lagoon is easy to adapt to a party pitcher drink; keep in mind the ratio 1:1:4 vodka/Blue Curaçao/lemonade. Add your core ingredients to the pitcher, mix with a long cocktail stirer and top with ice.
Frozen Blue Lagoon
I’ve used the traditional shaken method for the Blue Lagoon, but another variation you can try is a Frozen Blue Lagoon. Rather than shaking as above, you’ll need a blender to make a fabulous, refreshing frozen drink.
Blue Lagoon Mocktail
If it’s the coloring and testy citrus taste you are looking to replicate, we’ve seen several different versions of the virgin Blue Lagoon – we share our favourite using lemon juice & soda water in place of vodka and lemonade over here.
We have seen others use Brilliant Blue food coloring and fizzy lemonade, but we’ve found this a little sweet. If you can get your hands on Blue Curaçao Syrup, you can try plenty of substitute recipes with this ready mix that closely replicates ‘the real thing’ in color and flavor.
